Finding the right company to replace your roof is more important than one might think. We often take calls from homeowners explaining their shingles are only a few years old but the company hired is no longer around. Roof replacement is an expensive investment in your home. You want the peace of mind that the company you hire is established and will be in business for years to come.
Start with finding the answers to these questions before getting estimates for roof replacement. Does the company have a local phone number? Do they have a website? Do they have a physical address? Mailing payment to a post office box is fine. However, if the circumstance calls for a face to face, this usually cannot be done at the post office.
Was the company on time for the appointment? Are the vehicles clearly identified with the company name or logo? Did you receive your estimate in a timely manner? Was proof of insurance and references provided? Regardless of the type of home improvement project you may be having performed, it is critical to get an up to date proof of insurance from any type of contractor or you could be the one paying in the end.
The internet is littered with places to get the names and reviews of many types of contractors. Google, Yelp, Angie’s List and Facebook can all provide information. Advertising dollars spent online can impact that initial impression. Better Business Bureau, BBB.com, is a trusted local source that fairly grades businesses, list length of membership and any disputes the company has had in previous years. The internet is also littered with false and fake information.
The majority of our customers have always come from “word-of-mouth.” Ask parents, family, neighbors, friends, church members or co-workers do you know a good roofing company? When you call a good company for an estimate with a referral from a previous customer, you should get the same service and treatment your referral received.
Do not let price always determine how you make the big purchases in life. A quality shingle job with the best products and experienced workmanship comes at a price. If you have multiple estimates with drastically different pricing, fully evaluate the information and compare. You always want to compare apples to apples. Using a lesser product or taking short cuts will usually cost someone in the long run.
