3 Methods to Prevent Heat Damage on Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingle roofs remain the most popular roofing material on American homes today. Homeowners love this material because it’s cost effective, durable, and easy to use. It also comes in a myriad of styles to match your personal preference. But you need to make sure that your asphalt shingle roof remains protected throughout the year, especially during the warm seasons. After all, heat is one of the most damaging elements to shingles

Kept Away From Sunlight

One of the most overlooked aspects of a roof installation job is where contractors store their roofing materials prior to installation. When shingles are exposed to searing heat before installation, they could stick to each other inside the packaging. In turn, this makes it more difficult for the contractor to install them, and separating them runs the risk of accidentally damaging or breaking the shingles. When you’re working with us, you don’t have to worry about this as we store our roofing materials in a safe space before the installation process to ensure that they’re in perfect condition.

Well-Vented Attic Space

Most roofing issues that have anything to do with heat, moisture and mold growth come from your attic space. Your roof replacement expert will recommend you to have better ventilation in your attic space to release trapped moisture and heat. The reason you want a well-vented attic is because the heat trapped in this space can travel upward into your roof, damaging the underlayment and shingles, causing them to rot and warp. To enhance your attic’s ventilation, we’ll add intake and exhaust vents to keep air from staying stagnant within the space. We’ll even add attic fans if we deem it necessary.

Early Risers

When someone is working on a roof under the heat of the sun, the person runs the risk of softening the roof coating. Not only does this make the roof unstable, but it also makes it vulnerable to scuffing due to foot traffic on the roof. To prevent mistakes and damage on the roof, we make sure that we work on your roof early in the morning before the midday heat. We also “work around the sun”, meaning that we install shingles on the west side of your home in the morning and on the east side later on in the day.
