A roof replacement is a major investment that will benefit you for years to come. Aside from increasing your home’s overall value, a new and beautiful roof also protects against the harsh elements for as long as you own your home.
To ensure the success of this project, you need to get the inside and outside of your home ready before the roofing professionals arrive on installation day. Read on for some tips!
The roofing company and its team of installers will be working outside your home, but that doesn’t mean that what they’re doing won’t affect the interior. Expect things to get messy with all the vibrations, dust and noise while the roof installation is underway. Make sure you cover your furniture, beddings and other interior fixtures with tarps or drop cloths. Secure your windows, protect fragile items, and remove wall décor.
Days before the pros begin their roofing work, see to it that the outdoor areas are clear of any obstructions. Park your vehicle a safe distance away so the installation team can drop off the new shingles and other materials or place the dumpster on the driveway. Remove pieces of furniture and other items on your patio and yard, too. Cover shrubs and flower beds with tarp, and mark valuable or fragile plants with orange tape.
A typical roof installation job can take two to three days to complete. Within that period, the noise can cause disruptions to your children and pets. Keep your dog or cat indoors. If possible, have it looked after by a friend or a kennel service. Arrange for your young children to be at a family member’s or friend’s house as well. Beforehand, inform them to be careful around the house, especially when there’s debris and other hazards in the work zone.
