Understanding K-Style Gutters

Like any material, gutters have different styles, which include K-style. But what makes this style stand out from the rest?

Origin

Gutters are available in various sizes and profiles, and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) has compiled a list of the 12 most common rectangular gutter designs. The eleventh gutter on the list happens to be the K-style gutter. The letter K was given this moniker since it is the eleventh letter of the alphabet.

K-Style Gutters Are the Most Popular Gutters

Around 80% of the roofing systems in the United States are K-style gutters, and they are seamless gutters.

Seamless gutters are frequently custom-made for each home, so you can be sure that they are truly meant for your home’s style. They allow you to create a continuous flow for your gutter in each section of your home instead of having numerous gutter pieces spliced together. You can further protect this investment by adding gutter covers for extra durability and efficiency.

If you’re looking to install K-style gutters on your roof, you’ll have different metals available to you. Some of the most popular materials include:

  • Aluminum: As one of the most popular choices for K-style gutters, it’s lightweight and corrosion-resistant, making it easy to install.
  • Copper: This material is slightly more durable than aluminum, but also more expensive. Copper gutters can give off a classic visual appeal that can make a roof stand out even at a distance.
  • Galvalume: This is more durable than aluminum and copper as it’s made from steel coated with aluminum and zinc. And because of its durability and reliability, the material is typically used for warehouses, factories, buildings and other commercial properties.
