A roof replacement project gives you the opportunity to pick a different color for your asphalt shingles. Finding a good color for your roof can be an interesting endeavor, but it can also be frustrating without proper guidance. That’s why Christian Brothers Roofing is here to share four tips on choosing the right asphalt shingle colors for your roof.
1. Consider the climate. The climate in your area can affect your home’s temperature. Dark roofs are better for areas with a colder climate since this absorbs more heat compared to light roofs. On the other hand, homes in hotter climates will blend well with light roofs since they reflect the sun and keep your interiors cool.
2. Get large samples. When choosing from a few colors, make sure to get big samples. You can use these samples to see the color and look it will have during the different times of day. A roofer will highly encourage you to check the color throughout the day before settling on it and having it installed.
3. Draw inspiration from the homes in your neighborhood. One thing you can also look at is your neighbor’s roof. Look for a shingle color that blends in well with your neighbor’s, but not the exact same color. This is especially important if you live in an homeowners association (HOA) with specific rules regarding shingle color.
4. Blend it with the rest of your home. Your new roof color should match the color of the rest of your home. If you’re planning to replace your siding, you can do so together with a roof replacement. This way, you can choose two colors that can match or complement each other to complete your home’s look.
